Type of Dog Beds

Every puppy should be crate trained and every dog should have a bed. Your dog's crate provides a special place for your pet to go to escape from the hectic life most people lead. It is their security. It provides them with their quiet time and will become the most favorite spot in your dogs home. Your dog does not need to have a problem to deserve a bed.

If your dog uses their crate, the bed should fit into that crate comfortably. You don't have to spend a ton of money, you do need to get what will be comfortable for your dog. Small dogs need small beds and big dogs need thicker, larger beds. If your puppy was 2 pounds at one point, time can change that to a 100 pound dog in the future. Start small and inexpensively.

Puppies need to have chew proof dog beds. They need an indestructible material that cannot be destroyed by puppy teeth. You do not want your puppy to eat a potentially toxic filling from the inside of the bed. Safety and comfort are side by side on the important list.

Puppies should have a removable cover that can be easily laundered, or a bed that can be wiped down after and "accident". You don't want the smell to be the first thing you notice when you walk into your home.

Large dogs need a lot of padding. This is especially true of aging dogs. Many seniors develop arthritis or other joint issues. If you provide them with a comfortable bed, there will be a spring in their step when they wake up. Dogs spend about 14 hours each day sleeping. To ensure their comfort as they sleep, can ensure their comfort when they wake up.

Some beds are filled with cedar chips that repel fleas. They also have a pleasant fragrance. They aren't soft and aren't the best choice for a dog with muscle or bone problems. Cedar chips are also poisonous to cats. If you have a dog and cat household, avoid cedar chips.

Fluffy fillings feel good when you bring them home. As time goes by, the fluff goes away and the bed is no better than your dog sleeping on the floor. Memory foam fillings or cores will give your bed a longer life.

Introduce the bed to your dog early in their life. It can prevent them from using your couch or other pieces of furniture as their bed. Placing the bed out of the way of traffic gives them a place to hide when things get busy. Dogs like a refuge just as much as a human does.

Take your time when selecting the bed for your friend. You can spend a few dollars or a few hundred, depending on whether you are getting a bed strictly for comfort or one that is comfortable and fits your home décor as well. Removable covers can give you the option of changing the covers as the seasons change. You can have floral cotton for summer and a warm fleece for the colder months of the year.
