Baron Heavy Duty Dog Feeder

Feeding the Tall Dogs

My dog may be bigger than your dog, but he likes your dog feeder better than his. Keeping up with the Jones' can be difficult. Keeping up with the Jones' dog can also be difficult. However there are solutions to most problems.

Let's say you have an adult Boxer and the Jones' have a lab. Both are about the same height, but their feeding bowls are very different. Your lightweight plastic bowl sits on the floor and you start the meal on the left of the refrigerator and get the empty bowl over by the dishwasher. That is an easy one, get a heavier bowl.

You can also get a higher bowl which will have your dog eating in the proper posture to assure that the food is going where it should go. When you have a large dog, they are virtually eating upside down which can be bad for digestion. It can also cause the dog to choke on the kibble.

The Jones' dog has a big double feeder that is ten inches off the ground and their dog eats in the proper position. Guess you are going to have to start shopping. Your favorite discount stores have some, but they are primarily plastic. The big jaws of that boxer can chew up the plastic and present another choking possibility. Time to travel to the next stop.

The pet stores have great selections of elevated dog feeders. Some are metal with stainless bowls and other have ceramic or porcelain bowls. Much more sanitary, as they are easier to wash. Adjustable bowls are also there. You can raise them from six inches of the floor to twelve inches off the floor. That will be great if your next boxer is a puppy.

As you travel down the aisle you come to what may be your perfect solution. Store and serve bowls that will keep your dog fed and watered while you are at work. Using a two liter soda bottle with fresh water everyday will make it possible for your dog to not run out of water while you are at work. Many of these bowls also have storage under the bowls which add to its weight and consequently to the moving problem.

Something like this can save you a lot of heartache. Bloat is a life threatening condition that is common in large dogs. They eat too quickly and can have problems. Dogs with arthritic or other joint problems will eat quickly to get back to a comfortable posture. If their food is at head level the posture is there, and they will eat more slowly.

There are a lot of advantages to metal elevated dog feeders. If dogs could talk they would probably tell us even more. Until that time we'll just have to be happy doggie parents who want the best for their best friend. Get ready Jones dog, competition is headed your way. The next time you are invited for dinner, our designer bowl with the hand painted décor will await you. No stainless for me, I'm the king of my domain.
